I believe, and maybe I’m naïve, that everyone wants to be a part of something bigger than themselves… Something so big, so incredible, so unbelievable, so God- sized, that when it take place, you can say “only God”. I’ve learned over the years that it’s in the time of great difficulty… economy, trials, heartache, and heartbreaks that God loves to show himself strong. I have on my desk, a stone inscription that faces me every day. It is a quote by Albert Einstein. It says “In The Middle Of Difficulty Lies Opportunity.” So I am reminded every day that the bigger the problem, the bigger the opportunity. Have you learned that there is a relationship between the size of the opportunity and the size of your problem? Jesus loves to show himself strong in these kinds of situations. I am trusting God to do just that in my life personally and in the life of New Season Church. We must see beyond our own limitations and trust God. What are you trusting God for? We started our Saturday night service 3 weeks ago and we have averaged 160 people, which is more than we had coming the first month we were opened as a church. God is good! We have had someone saved every Saturday night. I’m praying about whether we should continue and so far it is looking good.
I’m currently in a series entitled “The Climb”. This past week I spoke about scaling the wall of grief. One lady lost her 26 year old son, she attended our 10:45 service and gave her life to Jesus. Another man came home from work and found his wife dead. He and I cried together in the foyer after our Saturday night service. So many people are hurting in this area of their lives and I believe God ministered greatly to them. I’m looking forward to this weekend and all that God is going to do at New Season Church!

Wow! What a great weekend at New Season. We had around 185 people in attendance for our new Saturday night service. We had around 730 total over the weekend and we saw seven saved and several families joined. We had great worship and I started “The Climb”. I really believe God spoke to some people through Proverbs 3:5 & 6. This week I’m in II Samuel 5, where David is trying to conquer Jerusalem. It is an incredible passage that really speaks to the strongholds in our lives. If the wall is too tall, try a tunnel. I’m really excited about the Fall and all that God has in store for New Season Church. Isaiah 43: 18 & 19 says “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness.” When God does a new thing in the life of the leader, the result will be a new thing in the life of a church. What has God being doing in your life lately? If you have to pause and think about that, it has certainly been too long.

I’m in the book of Philipians right now devotionally. I just read and meditated on Phil. 2:5-11. Jesus, being God yet became a Servant. It seems that everyone wants to lead, but nobody wants to serve. The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige, and position. Jesus messured greatness in terms of service. God determines your greatness by how many people you serve, not how many people serve you. Being a servant leader certainly requires a mental shift. It requires emptying ourselves, and only secure people can serve. So if you’re looking for a place to serve.. look no further than New Season Church! This weekend we’re beginning a new Saturday night service at 6:00. If you’re looking for a place to get plugged in and serve, God can certainly use you here at New Season. It has certainly been a long time since I blogged last. People always talk about priorities and everyone talks about how busy they are, blogging just isn’t on my top priority list. I’ve traveled a lot over the past month. I’ve been to 5 different states, preached at different places, went on vacation, went to conferences, and sent three of my kids off to college! Kayla and Austin went to Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN and Andrew went to Truett-McConell in Cleveland, GA. It is a very weird feeling having only one kid at home, that being Kirby. She started her Senior year in high school last week. Jeremiah still lives at home but is never there because of work and his love life. So, when I speak of priorities.. the number one priority is my relationship with Jesus Christ. Which is full-on, I’m falling deeper in love everyday. Number two.. My family. Vickie and the kids mean the world to me. Number three is ministry, which is being greatly blessed by God. We were packed out yesterday at out 10:45 service and we had to issue an SOS (scoot over some). We even had to bring more chairs in! 5 people came to Christ and there was a great Spirit in the place. God is certainly moving! I’m excited about the fall and all that God has in store for us. Check out our website and all that is going on: newseasonchurch.com . My life was forever changed twenty-four years ago today. I was sitting in Legion Stadium in Wilmington, North Carolina separated from my wife and my one year old son when I realized I was lost and on my way to Hell. On July 28, 1985 22 minutes after 8:00, I was saved. Every year I call two men. Johnny Hunt, because he invited Freddie Gage to do the Crusade I attended in Wilmington, and of course Johnny has been my pastor for 24 years. Freddie Gage is the second man I call. Freddie preached the night I got saved. It took someone with his background and testimony to reach someone like me. I am forever grateful for these two men for introducing me to Jesus Christ. Wow, what a ride it has been! Thousands of people have been saved in the last 24 years as a result of these two men’s investment in my life.
We had a great week leading up to my spiritual birthday. We were at youth camp in Destin, Florida. Ergun Caner preached at camp for us and we had Blood Stained Grace, a great band lead worship for us. We baptized 15 kids in the ocean our last night at the beach. We had 35 students recommit themselves to Christ and 3 students surrender to full time Christian service. One of those kids was my baby girl, Kirby. Vickie and I are certainly not surprised by this decision. Shout outs to my Kirby-Derby-Shirby! (She probably hates this being that she is 17.)

We’ve had an awesome summer so far, we’ve seen many people’s lives changed for the glory of our Savoir. We’ve seen over ten people saved over the last couple weeks, many families join, and people rededicating their lives to Christ.
Our Youth Summer Camp is less than a week away and we are getting pumped up! We will be heading to Destin Monday the 20th- Friday the 24th to hear music by Blood Stained Grace, preaching by Ergun Caner, and have a great time at the beach and pool! Some of our youth had the opportunity to hear Ergun Caner at Winter Xtreme in December so they’re excited to spend a week listening to such a great man of God. Blood Stained Grace lead worship during our camp last year and our kids really enjoyed the music and were able to openly worship. I’m so excited to see how the lives of our students will be changed for HIS glory.

Summer Blitz was last week and it was awesome! Summer Blitz is New Season’s version of Vacation Bible School for our 1st- 5th graders. We had around 15 children come to know Christ during Summer Blitz! The kids were led in their own worship, played games, ate snacks, made arts and crafts, and heard a message centered around the theme: “History Makers”. Jeremiah and his team of helpers did a fantastic job with Summer Blitz, it was a HUGE success! Summer Blitz was directed towards one goal… Seeing kids come to know Christ, and that was accomplished!

The NBA draft was the past Thursday and I’m pumped for next year! Our North Carolina Tarheel, Tyler Hansbrough went #13 to the Indiana Pacers and Ricky Rubio was the first person drafted into the NBA born in the 1990’s… man I feel old!
Vickie and I went to the Braves – Red Sox game Friday night. Vickie is a Boston fan and I am a Braves fan, so she really enjoyed seeing David “Big Poppy” Ortiz knock one out of the park to help the Sox beat the Braves 4-1! I can’t say it wasn’t awesome seeing Ortiz hit one out and Josh Beckett pitch all in one night… we had a blast!

Just finished a round of 18 holes of golf. Did ok on the front 9, but not too good on the back. I only get to golf about 4 or 5 times a year…But it was very enjoyable! We had another great day this past Sunday. Not only did people come to Christ in both services but lots of families got helped. This Sunday, I’m preaching to the men. I really believe that if the man gets on fire, the whole family will burn for Jesus! If you want to know the spirtual temperature in a home, put a thermometer in the husbands/fathers mouth. I am really enjoying this family series. This Sunday- I wil be dealing wth what a real man is. A real man rejects passivity, exemplifies intergrity, accepts responsiblility, and leads courageously.

Another great day this past Sunday… six people gave their lives to Jesus Christ, God moved in both of our services, especially the 10:45 hour. I’ll never get use to God moving in an incredible way. We have a great summer planned at New Season Church: Putt-Putt on Wednesday, Braves game on Thursday, Vickie has a tea party for the girls on Friday… No I will not be there! All of these events are great opportunities to build relationships with the church family! I’m really looking forward to this summer. Destin is next month- a little vacation and youth camp. I’m also very excited about this Sunday’s message. I really do believe a lot of families are going to be encouraged and helped. We recently found out that we own more property then we originally thought. We had a man do about $35,000 worth of work for free. God is so good!
