My wife and I have been in Peru this past week leading two different Timothy Barnabas Conferences, one in Lima and one in Iquitos, a jungle area on the Amazon River.
We were able to speak to hundreds of pastors, pastor’s wives and leaders. We saw God do amazing things in the lives of many people and we saw several people accept Christ. That never gets old!
Timothy Barnabas is a ministry that Pastor Johnny Hunt started over 20 years ago. The intention is to encourage and mentor Pastors, their wives and staff to be more effective for the Kingdom.
While I am with the men, my wife leads their wives in a time of encouragement, instruction and fun. She was taught by Pastor Johnny’s wife, Janet, so let’s just say the ladies get lots of Bible teaching, many laughs and gifts!
I have had the opportunity to be a part of Timothy Barnabas in several countries and have led quite a few, but the conference in Peru is one of our favorites.
Part of the reason is because the directors of Word of Life in Lima, Ruben and Graciela Matos have become two of our closest friends. This couple loves Jesus and they love ministry. They are humble and they are faithful. They both work hard to make our conference a success each year.
We have grown to love the Matos family including their daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Derek (and baby Daniel) and all of the Word of Life staff. We have been privileged to also meet many other friends in Peru.
Vickie and I agree that we always come home feeling more encouraged and blessed than when we went!
You know the old saying though: “It is good to visit but great to be home!” We are excited to see our kids, our grandbabies and our New Season family.
By the way, Happy Memorial Day. I hope you will take time out of all of your festivities to reflect on the reason for this day – to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives serving their country. I for one am grateful…and I am proud to live in the greatest country in the world.
