It has been a crazy month around the Flockhart house. That is why my blog is a little off schedule. I normally post on M, W and F…not this past week!
A few weeks ago, I had a surprise birthday party for my wife, Vickie. (She will be 50 years old on Sept. 16) I arranged for all of our kids to come in to town for the party and also arranged for her Mom, Bernice, and her sister, Lisa to drive in from S.C. It was a great party, we surprised Vickie and she had a great time.
Three days later (while still visiting with us), her Mom had a heart attack and ended up spending the week in the hospital. She was found to have an 80% blockage and had to have a stint put in. She received excellent care and our family was very impressed with the doctors, nurses and staff at Cobb Hospital in Austell. Thank God, all is well with Bernice’s health.
Meanwhile, we have been on “Baby Watch.” Our oldest son, Stevie and his wife, Whitney were expecting their second child, another son, (they already have a 2 year old son, Finnegan. I may have mentioned him once or twice!)
Well, on August 30th at 2:50 am, we were blessed with another grandson – Judah Dunn. He weighed 7 lbs, 7 oz and he was 20 inches long. He is a gorgeous baby boy! I am now the proud grandfather of 2 brothers, Finn and Judah, and their cousin, a beautiful little girl, Lakely. I have pictures, just ask me!
Our house has been full the past week as all of our children returned home for the birth of their new nephew. My wife and I love it when our house is full…and loud!
Then yesterday, my baby girl, Kirby celebrated her 22nd birthday. Is that even possible? I really think she was born just last week. It is not a cliché when we ask, “where did the time go?”
Kirby has always been able to walk in a room and have you laughing in a second. She is thoughtful and caring and always looking out for others. She is her Mama’s “mini me,” those two are just alike. She is sweet but she is tough. She is athletic and a tomboy but she is a gorgeous woman. That hurts me!
Kirby wanted to go and spend her birthday with her sister, Kayla and her husband, Kenny in Sewanee, Tennessee. She had plans for a “redneck birthday” and it was complete with four wheeling, dirt biking, shooting a cross bow, etc…Yes, I was involved in these activities but only for my baby girl!
I have stopped and thanked God over and over for these blessings and so many others that I have experienced these past few weeks. It’s too easy to take these things for granted. It’s too easy to whine and complain when things are not going the way that we want them to but it’s also easy to forget to thank Him when life is good.
I for one am thankful. Life is good!
