This past Sunday was amazing. I can’t tell you how many emails, phone calls and Facebook messages that I have received about the impact of our Father’s Day service.
My message was based on Genesis, chapter 28, verses 1-4 where Isaac gives Jacob the blessing regarding his future. Isaac speaks vision into his son’s life. Everyone needs that…every person alive needs that. The word, “bless” is used 71 times in the Old Testament in the context of blessing someone. It was a prayer or statement of faith over a person for success, prosperity, and longevity. It was a prayer for God’s presence, power and grace. The blessing was an acknowledgement that the person addressed possessed the seed in them for abundant and effective living.
So on Sunday in our services, I blessed all the Fathers and then all the Fathers in return blessed their sons. All of the other men who did not have their sons present or who were not Fathers also received a blessing. Any young man who did not have a Dad present was also blessed.
Can I say in one word…wow! It was a very powerful and moving time. I saw young men blessing their young sons; I saw older men blessing their adult sons; I personally had the awesome privilege to bless my 4 sons and my one week old grandson, and my oldest son blessed his new son as well. I saw grown men with tears flowing down their cheeks. It was an amazing day, a very memorable day.
Maybe today, you need a blessing. You need for someone to bless you, believe in you and give you another shot. Today, I bless you in the name of Jesus. Here is the prayer of blessing that I prayed over the men this past Sunday…Be blessed my friend!
