In the book of Numbers, chapter 13, we read a story of 12 men being sent out as spies into the land flowing with milk and honey…the Promise Land. The land that God had already promised to His people. We see in this passage in Numbers where these men are instructed to go and we are also given each man’s name and what tribe they are from. Talk about accountability! Talk about your name on the dotted line! Everyone knew what these men were getting ready to do.
So, off they went to check out the land. Two of the men came back to give a great report. These two men were full of faith; they were excited at the possibility of a better day and a better life. But just in many cases, the general consensus from the majority of the men that were sent out was that they did not have the faith to possess what God had already given them.
D.L. Moody said, “God never made a promise that was too good to be true, however every promise must be claimed by faith.” The people stayed in the wilderness for 40 years, roaming about aimlessly, missing out on all that God had for them. No decision was made to move forward and possess the land because the 10 spies had the same problem that most people have…The lack of faith to believe God!
It only took 10 People to keep 1 million Israelites OUT of the Promised Land. We must have faith to believe and trust God who never breaks a promise.
