I’m a big fan of all the Rocky movies. I can quote almost all of them! They all have a lot of classic one liners.
In Rocky 5, Rocky is fighting Tommy Gunn in the street. Tommy Gunn comes up from behind and starts beating Rocky. Rocky gets up from the beating and says, “Yo Tommy, I didn’t hear no bell."
In other words I’m not done, I’m not quitting, I’m still here! Rocky never gives up. No matter what comes his way or what life throws at him, he just doesn’t quit!
Webster defines the word “discouraged” as: “to deprive of hope or courage to be disheartened; have difficulty to hinder; to be down.”
I don’t know about you but I really don’t need a dictionary to describe the feeling of discouragement to me. I have been there and know the feeling all too well!
Many people are disillusioned, discouraged and are ready to give up on life. No one is immune and the feelings can come in an instant. We are prone to become discouraged – to lose heart and give up.
Did you know that one of the main strategies of the devil is to discourage you? It is a spiritual attack, he wants to make you feel down and frustrated, make you lose heart. It may be through your marriage, your job, a relationship, a particular ministry, in your Christian life, finances, health issues, emotional issues, etc… Maybe it’s just that things are just not going as you planned.
Galatians, chapter 6, verses 9-10 says, “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” What an incredible promise!
This is a great promise but it is a promise with a condition. The promise is for those who do not quit. You can’t claim the promise if you quit! You’ve come too far in your life. Don’t quit now – don’t give up. Hang in there, God’s not through with you!
No matter what comes you way, no matter what trial you are facing today, no matter how bad the odds are against you, no matter how discouraged you might be, no matter how dark the storm is…
I haven’t heard any bell yet!
