I loved the show, Fear Factor. For those of you who didn’t watch it, Fear Factor had a group of contestants who competed against each other by doing outrageous things like eating earthworms, lying in a tank of non-poisonous snakes, being dunked repeatedly head first into a pool of water, etc…it was crazy!
There is a great deal of fear around us in the world, people are afraid! Fears of the current threat of terrorism; fears from sudden natural disasters like the floods, tornadoes and earthquakes that have have killed so many people and caused such devastation in recent days.
We certainly live in a world of uncertainty. There is a fear factor in life that strikes all of us at some point. Fear doesn’t discriminate by age, race, gender, wealth, or religion.
What do you fear? Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
In this text, the nation of Israel was paralyzed with fear. In Chapters 40 – 45 the phrase, “fear not” appears repeatedly. The people were living in a state of fear like many people today. “Fear not” in the Bible is used 365 times – one for each day!
II Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Fear and faith cannot co-exist. One has to flee.
Let we walk you through some truths in dealing with fear:
Face Your Fear! We often fear that which is undefined. Put a name on your fear and then confront it. When you feel fear, identify it. Identifying it is half the battle.
Don’t Allow Your Fears to Dictate Your Decisions! Most of our fears are unfounded. *Know that your destiny is in God’s hands…tell yourself that! When you read the Bible, specifically the Old Testament, you see that God is in charge and the destiny of the children of Israel is in God’s hands. You too are in His hands!
Believe God’s Promises! You don’t have to fear being alone. God is an ever present help in times of trouble. You don’t have to fear being abandoned. Jesus said, “I’ll never leave you nor forsake you.”
You don’t have to fear being judged, the cross took care of that.
You don’t have to fear being condemned, Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus…”
Jesus said in John 14:27 says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Face your fear!
