Straddling the Fence

One of my favorite stories in the Bible is that of Joshua and the children of Israel crossing over the Jordan and conquering the Promise Land.

There’s no question that Canaan was God’s appointed land for His people. It was God’s perfect will that all the tribes be in the land flowing with milk and honey. Anything short of Canaan was settling for less than God’s very best.

Why is it that so many of us do not experience God’s best? That supernatural victory, that Promise Land that is ours for the claiming.

So many times, we stop just short of all that God has for us. In Joshua, chapter 22, the 2 and a half tribes of Rueben, Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh settled for less and stopped short of the Promise Land. They settled on the East side of the Jordan. They were “borderline believers.”

When we read the story, we discover an amazing truth that has profound but practical application for our lives today. Will you live too close to the enemy?

When you straddle the fence, it is difficult to tell what side or whose side you are on. When you live your life trying to be politically correct, socially accepted and liked by everyone you will always end up straddling the fence.

I challenge you today to get off the fence and stop straddling it. Choose your side…choose Jesus!
