Burn Baby Burn

In chapter 20 of II Chronicles, we read the story of Jehoshaphat facing an impossible situation. His life and country were under pressure. Their circumstances were overwhelming. Annihilation was certain without God’s intervention. “The battle is the Lord’s” was declared, believed and acted upon.

There are so many great truths in this passage but I want to focus on just two of them.

First, we need to recognize God for who he is. Verses 6–9, and in vs. 12 we have a declaration of who God is.  “LORD, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. 7 Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? 8 They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your Name, saying, 9 ‘If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us. 12Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

Jehoshaphat starts telling God how great, mighty, powerful and sufficient He is. We serve a big God! We should be attempting really big things. We should be dreaming the impossible dreams. God is not lacking in the power department. His resources are unlimited, His grace is unending and His character is unquestionable.

So, know that God is big. Second, have a vision. We lack the vision to accomplish what God has for us. So the problem lies in us. We must get on fire for God’s vision and develop a passion for what excites Him. If you are involved in something that God has not gifted you and called you to do, STOP! You are wasting your life. You need to get in on what God has for you. Quit living the normal, run of the mill, complacent, hum drum life.

Do you have a strong sense of purpose? Is your life on mission? Are you burning with white hot passion or is life dull? Are you stressed out, burnt out and running on empty? If you are, it’s probably because you are operating in your own power.

Get a vision of who God is and what God wants to do in your life and watch out! Life is too short to waste. When Jehoshaphat saw who God really was and believed it; when he caught the vision, God did the miraculous. Get on fire and Burn Baby, Burn!
