Parenting may be the single greatest challenge in all of life. Is there a harder job on the planet? I know there is not a more emotional one. One moment, you can experience great joy and pride but the next, moment brings sadness, disappointment and depression.
There are certainly highs and lows in parenting. At times, you may find yourself on your knees with no answers at all. Other times, you are standing tall saying, “that’s my kid.” Parenting is a great challenge.
I have six children and there is no doubt that I have made many mistakes as their Dad. I can be very hard, very firm and unfortunately, I judge performance where I should just see parenting as a great privilege. I do love my 4 sons and 2 daughters will all of my heart and I am proud of each of them for the men and women they are growing into. God blessed me with six awesome kids!
We have the responsibility to instill values, principles and philosophies of life into our children. We have the opportunity to impact their lives, both positively or negatively.
Here are three things that we owe our children:
Actions really do speak louder than words. We must show our kids that we love them. Every kid spells love T-I-M-E. Spend time with your kids…they will be grown before you know it.
Proverbs 29: 15, 17 says, “The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. Correct your son, and he will give you rest;
Yes, he will give delight to your soul.”
One of the most important things we can do for our children is to discipline them.
Children really do what they see. They live more by our example than they do by our advice. Do we walk with God? Do they see Jesus in us? We are the only Bible some of them will ever read.
We certainly owe our kids these three things and so much more. I sure don’t have it all figured out. In the meantime, let’s grow in our parenting, grow with our kids and watch our sons and daughters grow into great men and women of God.
